When will we learn? The warnings are there. We must end our dependency on foreign oil. There is no reason whatsoever why the United States must import 65% of its energy. No reason except for liberalism. There are oil, natural gas and coal deposits all over the United States. We should use nuclear energy while developing clean energy. But no, we import 65% of our energy. That’s right – 65%.
Americans need to understand why it is so dangerous to depend on foreign oil. Our National Security and economy are at severe risk because of the energy policy of the United States. On December 7, 1941, Japan attacked Pearl Harbor because the United States placed an oil embargo on Japan. In the 1970’s OPEC placed an oil embargo on the United States which caused long lines and high gas prices.
The energy policy as outlined by President Obama during his State of the Union address is a joke. He is doing nothing to address the immediate energy needs of this country. The short-term emphasis must be on energy independence while focusing on a long-term goal of reducing our dependency on oil.
On May 25, 1961 during a Joint Session of Congress, President Kennedy challenged Congress to put a man on the moon by the end of the decade. “I believe that this nation should commit itself to achieving the goal, before the decade is out, of landing a man on the moon and returning him safely to the Earth.” On July 20, 1969, eight years after this challenge, Neil Armstrong stepped onto the moon.
With the right leadership, the United States can rise to the challenge of being energy independent within the next few years. We need to drill for oil and natural gas. We need to mine for coal. And we need to build nuclear power plants and oil refineries.
“If I can figure it out, why can’t they.” I am the Conservative Housewife. Hear me roar.
